Do you know what the fastest growing religion in America is? It isn’t Christianity. According to the latest U.S. Religion Census that was just released on May 1, 2012, the fastest growing religion in America is Islam. The data for the census was compiled by the Association of Statisticians of American Religious Bodies, and the results were released by the Association of Religion Data Archives. From the year 2000 to the year 2010, the census found that the number of Muslims living inside the United States increased from 1 million to 2.6 million – a stunning increase of 66.7 percent. That is an astounding rate of growth. Meanwhile, most Christian denominations had rates of growth that were far below the overall rate of population growth in the United States, and some Christian denominations actually lost members. Sadly, when Barack Obama once said that “we are no longer a Christian nation” he wasn’t too far off the mark. Christianity is rapidly losing influence and other religions such as Islam are rapidly gaining members and building new places of worship. As other major religions such as Islam continue to grow in the United States, it is inevitable that this will reshape America in many different ways in the years ahead.
So what about other religious groups?
How did they fare according to the U.S. Religion Census?
Well, the following are some of the growth rates for major religious organizations from the year 2000 to the year 2010….
Mormons: +45.5%
Evangelical Protestants: +1.7% (far behind the overall rate of population growth)
Catholics: -5.0%
Mainline Protestants: -12.8% (an astounding decline)
But it was Islam that experienced the most explosive growth.
According to Ihsan Bagby, a professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Kentucky, there were about 1,200 mosques in America back in the year 2000.
According to this new census, there are now 2,106.
All over the United States we are seeing “mega-mosques” being constructed, and in many cases the funding is coming from overseas.
And these mega-mosques are not going unused. In some areas of the country, Islamic communities are experiencing absolutely explosive growth.
The following example comes from a recent USA Today article….
Imam Muhammad Musri, president of the Islamic Society of Central Florida, saw growth explode by a whopping 473 percent in and around Orlando’s Orange County, according to the RCMS study, and he thinks the growth is actually double the 10,000 new Muslims reported by the study.
He said Muslim growth has been fueled by a wave of post-9/11 converts, American-born children of immigrants having kids of their own, and jobs in the booming medical industry. In central Florida, he said, Muslims are just following everyone else in search of “better weather, cheaper prices, cheaper homes.”
A lot of this growth is being fueled by immigration. A survey conducted by the Pew Research Center back in 2007 discovered that 39 percent of all adult Muslims living in America were immigrants that had arrived in the United States since 1990.
This rapid influx of Muslims is reshaping communities all over America. For example, Muslim students now account for approximately 10 percent of the total number of students in the New York City School District.
And all over the country many school districts are now changing their school calendars to observe Islamic holidays.
In fact, in Dearborn, Michigan football practices are actually scheduled around Ramadan. The following is from aFox News article….
In Dearborn, Mich., where schools are closed on both the day before and the day of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, the predominantly-Muslim football team has switched its two-a-day summer practice schedule to 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. during Ramadan, so that Muslim players — who fast while the sun is up – won’t be forced to practice in the heat without drinking water.
The move received little backlash in Dearborn, because most of the football players are Muslims.
Dearborn is located just outside of Detroit, and it contains one of the densest Arab communities outside of the Middle East. Each day, the local mosque’s call to prayer can be clearly heard all over the city. Dearborn is a clear example of why we can no longer call America a “Christian nation”.
But Islam is not the only non-Christian religion that is growing rapidly in America.
The latest U.S. Religion Census found that non-Christian groups grew by 32 percent overall from the year 2000 to the year 2010.
Meanwhile, as I have written about previously, the decline of Christianity in America is accelerating.
Back in 1990, one survey found that 86 percent of all Americans identified themselves as “Christian” of one sort or another.
By 2008, only 76 percent of all Americans identified themselves as “Christian” of one sort or another.
Meanwhile, atheism and the “not religious” are experiencing huge gains in numbers. For example, the U.S. Census Bureau says that the number of Americans with “no religion” more than doubled between 1990 and 2008.
Even many of those that still apply the label of “Christian” to themselves are not very committed. The latest U.S. Religion Census found that approximately 150 million Americans are not actively engaged with any religious community at all. That is nearly half of the population.
So America is changing.
It is becoming less religious and it is becoming less Christian.

I thought to write today that we as believers have got to learn how to unify as our fellow non Christian believers have done so well at. Here's whats wrong with "stats" if you have 15 million christians, and over a 1 or 2 year period they pick up 2,500 new members, versus Muslims that have 15,000 members in the USA and in 1-2 years especially since muslim brother obama took office and you have 15,000 new ones well you have a larger % mainly because 10 years ago there were very few muslims. kinda misleading like most polls or survey's. It's not Islam that makes people say "…we can no longer call America a “Christian nation”. It's the un-Constitutional intrusion of Christian leaders into national political life where the Bible clearly says otherwise. Give the nation what is its, and to God what is God's, the Gospel says. It's something televangelists and other prominent Christian leaders ignore constantly to impose their morality, or biblical immorality, on fellow citizens. Christianity is a personal relationship with God, not designed for national governance. Moslems escaping from religious fundamentalism in their home countries are enjoying moderate policies in the USA which allow them to thrive. That means bigger families and communities and mosques in the short run. Longer term Moslems will stop the population explosion to adequately support their families. It's not the conspiratorial Islam-taking-over-the-USA that's the problem. It's lack of Christian morality among pastors and ministers and church elders that's DECREASING Christian adherence to biblical principles in their greed for fame and fortune. The bible doesn't prevent material riches, but it clearly states the problems such riches imply for leading the Christian lifestyle.

America is doomed….it just might happen faster with the huge increase in Islam "believers" within the USA. The percentage of growth quoted in the article is wrong though…it is actually 166%, based on the quoted numbers. Think about it: where in the world has the arrival of Islam improved the host Country? Ask any country that has more experience in this situation what they think about it. And it is not just the increase in Islam but also the birth rates of same…several times more than Christians + "others". One does not need a calculator to see what is coming and I fear there is nothing that can be done…the die has been cast and America's apathy will be the end of the USA as I have known it.

Actually, I found this article to be uplifting because of the declining numbers of those who embrace religions of all types. If Islam is going to grow there is no place better then for it to grow here because two very important democratic/human rights things will happen: 1.) it will learn to be tolerant of others and 2.) like Christianity and Judism the evil and violent social customs and ignorant interpretations of it's teachings will begin to fall away. If atheists and agnostics' numbers are increasing, it may be because of the enormous hypocrisy of the church leaders and the way they manipulate politicians. Everywhere I look, every time I turn on TV or radio I'm bombarded with images of war caused by one or other religion or sect within a religion; the behavior of the Catholic church (or are they not considered christian?) has been one of disgust to me personally. For those American's wavering in their faith life, false religions will get their share of adherents, though how long and/or how fervently, likely they fall away in time. For those who profess Christ, sure, many will forgo organized religion but very few will denounce the Lord our God, they will just fail to "assemble themselves together" as instructed in the Bible. Parents who call themselves Christians are not commited and does not practice their religion, tht is the problem. That's a pretty grandiose and unfortunate stereotype. I know very many Christians who are commitmed to, and do practice their religion and do practice the teachings of the Bible and child rearing as stated in the Holy Word of God. Parents need to follow the example of our Heavenly Father, who established guidelines of the Bible for our protection and safety, not as a means to enslave us. Just like Henry Ford developed the Model A and knew everything about it and what was best for it, so does God for all people – His children.
Not every parent would rather watch TV than pray. I do agree that foul language and violence is rampant. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Matthew 7:1-7 will keep us all in check. We are not here to judge but to lead others to love the Lord of Light, and eternal salvation through his blood that was shed for all. Even those who will never come to acknowledge or believe in Him. Lets be part of the solution, not the problem or the ranting involved in perpetuating the erosion of morality.

It is really to bad that the preachers in our churches are not proclaiming the truth, but instead are preaching a counterfeit of the real thing. Just like the Scribes and Pharisees 2000 years ago, they hide the Kingdom of YAHUWAH from others because they will not enter into it themselves and they hinder those who are trying to enter into it. I have to agree with you, although thru my studies on the Creators Name & His Sons Name which I have been studying on since 1983, I pronounce probably pretty close to the same, but feel that the Tetragrammaton should be all vowels (IAUA or IAUE) THAT could be spelled out as Yahuah & for our Savior, Yahushua. We as Christians have been misled for over 2000 years, & yes, have accepted, God, Lord, Jesus Christ for the Name of our Heavenly Father & His Son. What about Spiritualism? Buddhism? They aren't even mentioned and yet in our area there has been explosive growth as people who were once Christian now wish to become part of unity. Why don't you narrow-minded christian types go and hang out at a mosque for a day, talk to a muslim and just find out what they're all about? Biblically speaking there's no such thing as a "Christian Nation." In the Gospel accounts of His ministry, Jesus NEVER called on nations to respond to Him (unlike the warrior prince/prophet, Muhammad who terrorized the Middle East 600 years later). Contrariwise, Jesus ALWAYS called on the individual to respond personally. Christians are individuals, not political assemblies. Our country was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, but that characteristic does not make a nation "Christian." The one political entity in the world that purposely calls itself a "Christian Nation" is the Vatican; and we know how well that idea worked out over the centuries. Founded as a Christian nation with Christian morals and principles… If you don't agree, read the documents. When our Founding Fathers wrote "freedom of religion," they were referring to a King not dictating a religion to the people. In other words, the documents had a frame of reference. The Founding Fathers never imagined so many other religions penetrating the USA within 236 years! While I do NOT believe in forcing a particular religion on anyone, I am adamant about the USA being known as a Christian nation – not a secular nation.

Well, as an athiest I'm thrilled that Chrisitanity is decling. However, I'm not thrilled than mormonism and islam are increasing. And I notice that the only Christian religion that has grown is evangelical. Islam, evangelical Christianity and Mormonism are all fundamentalist in nature. It's fundamentalist forms of religion that scare me. I bet if Judaism had been studied in this list, they would have discovered that Orthodox Judaism is rising. I think we're getting a split between the rise in the non-religioius and fundamentalist religious at the same time. We're experiencing a rise in extremism as evidenced in religion as well as politiics. Also wider disparity of incomes. I think all this stuff goes together. During the long period when America was stable economically, fundamentalist religion and extremely partisan politics were also at a minimum.
