The Shocking Truth About Unemployment In America In One Chart

The mainstream media is not telling you the truth about unemployment in the United States. The percentage of working age Americans that are employed is not increasing. In March 2010, 58.5 percent of all working age Americans had a job. In March 2012, 58.5 percent of all working age Americans had a job. So if the employment rate is exactly the same as it was two years ago, then how in the world can the Obama administration claim that things have gotten significantly better since then? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the official unemployment rate in the United States was 9.8 percent in March 2010 and it declined to 8.2 percent in March 2012. So how is this possible if the percentage of working age Americans that have jobs hasn’t moved? Well, what they do is they claim that there are millions upon millions of Americans that have “left the labor force”. In other words, they claim that there are millions upon millions of unemployed Americans that don’t want jobs anymore. Of course that is a total farce, but the mainstream media and most Americans are buying it. They actually believe that the unemployment rate is going down. But the truth is that the unemployment crisis in America has not subsided. In fact, we are pretty much exactly where we were two years ago, and things are about to get a whole lot worse.
If you want to know the shocking truth about unemployment in America, all you need to do is to look at one chart. The chart posted below shows the change in the employment-population ratio over the past few years. What the employment-population ratio measures is the percentage of working age Americans that actually have jobs. As you can see, it fell dramatically during 2008 and 2009, and since then it has been hovering between 58 and 59 percent….
So there has been no employment recovery, and this is very odd because the employment-population ratio always bounces back after a recession.
The chart posted below shows how the employment-population ratio has changed since the late 1940s. The shaded areas represent recessions. Please take note that after every single recession (other than the current one) the employment-population ratio has always bounced back substantially.
During the most recent recession, the employment-population ratio fell farther than it had during any other recession in the post-World War II era.
If these were normal economic times, it would have been reasonable to expect a huge surge in hiring by now.
But we have not seen that.
Instead, the employment rate in the United States has been remarkably flat for more than two years.
So Barack Obama should not even begin to say anything at all about a “recovery” until the employment rate at least breaks the 59 percent barrier.
In the past I have written about how fraudulent the employment statistics put out by the federal government are.
Well, fortunately there are some folks up on Capitol Hill that are starting to take notice of this phenomenon as well. There is a new bill in Congress that wouldchange the way that the unemployment rate is calculated….
A Republican lawmaker is intensifying his push for legislation that would change how the government measures the unemployment rate.
Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) intends to press GOP leaders to move his bill to include the number of individuals who gave up looking for work in the percentage of jobless claims.
Of course there is probably not a chance that such a bill would ever get through the Senate, but at least some lawmakers are trying to get people to notice what is going on.
The sad truth of the matter is that the employment crisis in America is still about as bad as it was a couple of years ago.

Well, it turns out that the unemployed engineer still doesn’t have a job….
More than two months after President Barack Obama asked for Darin Wedel’s résumé, the phone is quiet, e-mails are no longer flooding in and the long-sought-after job interviews — which had begun to be scheduled — have petered out.
“Not even recruiting companies are calling anymore,” said Jennifer Wedel, the Fort Worth mother of two who chatted online this year with Obama about her out-of-work husband.
She says his job search has been hurt by a program to hire skilled foreign workers.
But Barack Obama is doing the same thing on a national level.
He is promising all of us that things are improving and that there will be lots of jobs for everyone soon, but it is all a lie.
The truth is that this period of relative stability that has been purchased byunprecedented levels of government debt will soon give way to even moreeconomic trouble.
One of my readers recently brought to my attention a list of some of the major companies that are currently getting rid of workers….
Ford will be laying off 1,200 assembly line workers later on this month.
Pittsburgh-based paint and coating manufacturer PPG has announced that it will be laying off 2,000 workers.
J.C. Penney recently laid off 600 workers and has plans to lay off another 300 workers in July.
Lockheed Martin has announced that it will be laying off hundreds of workers.
Dow Chemical has announced that hundreds of workers are going to be laid off.
Yahoo has formally announced that it will be getting rid of about 2,000 workers.
Sony has announced plans to eliminate 10,000 jobs globally.
Even Oprah Winfrey is laying off workers. Oprah is reducing the size of the staff at the OWN network by 20 percent.
Meanwhile, our economy continues to bleed jobs at an astounding pace. At a time when American workers desperately need jobs, millions of them continue to be sent overseas.
In fact, even some jobs that you would think would be impossible to outsource are being given to foreigners. Just recently, ABC News did a major report on all of the roads and bridges all over the United States that are being built by Chinese companies. If you have not seen that report yet, you can view it online right here.
If you go into a Wal-Mart or a dollar store and you start turning over products you will find that huge numbers of them are made in China and that very few of them are made in the United States. China is absolutely dominating us on the global economic stage. Last year our trade deficit with China was the largest trade deficit that one nation has had with another nation in the history of the world. Yet we continue to pursue the exact same trade policies year after year.
So how is the American economy ever supposed to recover if we continue to play to lose?
As a nation we spend far more than we make, we consume far more than we produce and our federal government implements thousands of new business-crippling regulations every single year.
If you still have a good job, you should treasure it and you should try to hold on to it for as long as you can. Soon the next major economic downturn will be upon us and millions more Americans will lose their jobs and their homes.
Things did not have to turn out this way, but we made horribly bad decisions for decades and now the consequences are catching up with us.

Working as a consultant in the power generation industry I travel throughout the US and speak daily to individuals in small town USA, Percentage wise an unbelievable amount of the hard working vote casting citizens of this Country believe the hype and lies that the Government puts out. It looks like a major upset for the GOP come november unless the Republicans educate the voters. Sad times to come for the USA.

Sounds about right. I have been unemployed for about a year. My last gig was dominated by foreign workers on the project teams, and I suspect that the percentage is going higher.
As for "Soon the next major economic downturn will be upon us and millions more Americans will lose their jobs and their homes." I think we're already there.

I f you would bother to read the latest developments on the environmental front, you would know that it is THE up-and-coming business enterprise. The Chinese know this, so do most European countries AND our own oil and gas companies. That is why they have started investing heavily in this much needed–NOW and in the future–eco-oriented companies. It is not only good for the planet, but good for your portfolio as well. Wise up!

Environmentalists are blamed wrongly. Germany is ecologically much more advanced than the US and yet the economy works. The "secret"? Employees are not seen as dirt that the companies have to get rid of.
May be one distant day US companies learn that they cannot do without customers. Customers are people who have money to spend. The military guarantees employment but it is unproductive, which means that this kind of employment only increases debt.

Unfortunately, I don't see this picture changing much with Romney as president. More tax breaks are in store for the 5% upper incomes, which means the increased motion of capital overseas, not in the United States. Since the Republican Party is very pro-business, I see further granting of foreign worker visas, and no corporate sanctions against those who hire illegals. The free trade mentality of conservatives means more importation of cheap goods, less employment due to reduced demand for products because consumer wages are stagnant and in many cases decreasing. The best advice is to keep your job, take care of yourself, and avail your family of any government benefits that still exist for the middle and lower classes.

Lots of people gave up looking for a job. These people don't count as unemployed anymore for statistics, simply like that.
If my wife loses her job and the only ones she finds are low paid jobs she'll stay in home taking care of my daughter, it wouldn't compensate for us to pay a day care.
This is only a small example, there are much more around. This is why the official unemployment is decreasing.
Simple like that.

The world is shrinking rapidly. Millions of people, who less than five years ago, did not know about job opportunities in their own countries, have cell phones–smart phones–and the world of information at their fingertips. They are learning about job opportunities at light speed–and the jobs raise their level of income (i.e. standard of living) by a hundred fold. And they don't have to get a college degree to perform the jobs. It can be taught to them in a very short while, usually less than a week. And they don't mind the boring aspects of the work–after all, they are grinning from "ear-to-ear" in their spirit, AND on their way home after payday. And so what does the USA do? It keeps sending more of that work to them and those governments actively grab for more. And why do USA companies do this? So they can sell more products to our own people, because the USA economy is driven by consumer spending. We are unable to sell products to other companies because we have priced ourselves way above the world market ability to purchase. But they are catching up, and soon, because they will be making all of the products, they will be able to buy their own "home-made" items. Made in America has already be replaced by Made in China, Made in India, Made in Malaysia, Made in Korea, Made in Japan, Made in Brazil, Made in Italy, Made in Spain, Made in Africa. There is a leveling of the global standard of living. I believe it is being superintended by the world's monetary leaders (such as the IMF, the G8, the G20, the financial dictatorships working in concert. They provide what used to be called slave labor to make mass production products that can be and are being consumed by users all over the world, not just in developed nations. Will poverty strike the USA? It already has–with 40% of working age people NOT working, about half of them on some kind of subsidy benefits (but not for much longer). Ouch, we are in for a shock when bread lines become large scale.

This is all part of a grand plan that Obama and the One World Government gang has planned for us.
1) Destroy the standard of living and wealth of the US because we "stole" the wealth of the world as we developed.
2) Destroy the value of the dollar by printing money and buying votes. This also erases our national debt.
3) Re-distribute the wealth of average everyday Americans who have worked hard and saved/invested/lived by the rules. Inflation destroys their savings.
4) Reward corporations who further the Obama agenda i.e. Green ( I hate the term Green now), solar, wind, etc.
5) grow the hatred of successful people by giving taxpayer money to corporations who play the game.

7) Allow the voting machines to be run by SEIU union thugs who have their own aganda (World-wide unionization of all workers)
8) Allow the voting machines to be owned by a foreign company that has no incentive to accurately count our votes. They also have their own agenda.
9) Destroy the energy industry which is the only industry that can survive in the US because oil has been a world market for years. Subsidize oil production in Brazil with our money!!!!
10) Destroy our allies by humiliating them in public and leaking their plans for their own defense.
11) Undermine the Constitution by choosing which laws will be enforced.
12) Move assets from the defense of our border and give major incenives to those who come heere illegally.
13) give billions of our tax dollars to the muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

invest $2 billion in China and train more than sixtyfive engineers and create six research centers, this is the same GE that made over five billion dollars in the USA last year, but paid no taxes the same company that employs more people overseas tha it does in the united states. Mr. obama appointed GE chairman Jeff Immelt to create more jobs, I guess obama forgot to tell him which country he was supposed to be creating those jobs. This lack of leadership for the USA is useless for the people here in the United States.

The rich and super-rich have had 12 years to improve our economy by enriching the middle class through job creation. However, there has been no such "job creation" and none for the forseeable future by the multi-millionaires and billionaires. The only thing they've accomplished is greater enrichment for themselves and the creation of only two economic classes of people by eliminating the middle-class. The moneyed people in the US are betting that they (and their ilk) and the messianic, evangelical, fideistic, fundy freaks will take over the complete economy and governance of America pushing us back into the Dark Ages when the rich and the "church" ruled everything and everybody.
We must: Outlaw lobbying in Washington. We must put in place term limits for politicians. We must tax "everyone fairly." We must treat evryone as equals regardless of skin color, race or political persuasion. We must be honest. We must be non-bigoted. Is this too much to strive for?
